Ray Isaac will be setting dancefloors ablaze with the launch of his debut album, Goodbye Innocence.
Ray Isaac doesn’t give a damn. Well, if you take his first single literally, that is. The spunky 24-year-old Sydney singer/songwriter set dancefloors on fire around the country two years ago with ‘I Don’t Give A Damn’, a pop/dance/funk confection harking back to the ’80s.
But don’t take things too literally with Isaac. Because he clearly does give a damn. He’s releasing his debut solo album this week, and if Isaac has his way “the buzz will become a roar”.
Isaac, who identifies as straight, has an affinity with “gay music”, the kind of ‘dirty disco’ that us gay boys love to get down to.
But his tastes are wide and eclectic – they run from the likes of openly-gay pop star Darren Hayes, to Michael Jackson, Brian McKnight, Ne-Yo, Mario and Joe. All of which is evident on his debut album, Goodbye Innocence, which is launched at Oxford Street’s Goodbar this weekend.
Tracks on the album include ‘Whoa!’, which Isaac says “is just that – it brims with character and candour”; ‘Freaky Tonight’, which “builds its narrative with scenes of gentle yet raw insight”; and of course, ‘I Don’t Give A Damn’, which was previously featured on the Ministry of Sound Sessions 2006 album, and has been re-planned and remixed especially for the new album.
And what does Isaac have in store for us at the album launch this weekend? You’ll just have to come along and find out
Ray Issac’s debut album, Goodbye Innocence, will be launched at Goodbar, 11A Oxford Street, Darlinghurst at 8pm, Saturday, 21 June. Entry $20, with $5 going to heart transplant charity Hands for Life. Visit rayisaac.com for more info and to purchase tracks.
