WIRES Inner West seeking volunteers

We are a community organisation and all our members are volunteers giving up their time to care for our injured and orphaned wildlife. Contrary to popular belief, we actually have a lot of native wildlife in the inner and coastal suburbs of Sydney.

As Chair of the Inner West branch and an active member of the gay and lesbian community, I am hoping to reach out to the animal lovers in our community and recruit new members to join the handful of queers and others currently working hard for our wildlife.

We are running new member’s training on August 30th & 31st for the Inner West branch and September 27th and 28th for the Eastern Suburbs. Information on both courses can be obtained by contacting This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or the Sydney Rescue Office on 89773333.

Thanks for your support.

Rights for same sex couples

The Australian Coalition for Equality (ACE) has urged all members of the LGBTI community to take five minutes to make a submission to the current Senate inquiries into the rights of same-sex couples.

Individual LGBTI people can contribute to ending discrimination by sending a submission. Personal stories may be added to a sample submission that can be downloaded from www.coalitionforequality.org.au

For more information please contact Corey Irlam, ACE Spokesperson on 0401-738-996.

Same-sex couples and family law

Is the family law system ready for same-sex couples and their children?  Is the legal profession ready to deal with the specialist needs of women’s employment issues under Workchoices, and the changes to employment law?

The Inner City Legal Centre certainly is, and has moved to a new location in Kings Cross to offer these clients and the general local community an inclusive, free legal advice service.

To coincide with the Centre’s relocation, a series of community legal information seminars concerning same sex parenting and women’s employment issues is being organised by the Centre.  Details about the seminars will be publicised shortly.

For further information on the opening, please contact Robyn Solomon, Deborah Henwood or Yasmin Hunter on (02) 9332 1966.
