Richard Watts catches up with porn star Alex Baresi. 
Recently voted the International Gay Porn Star of the Year 2007, Italy’s Alex Baresi is the epitome of tall, dark and handsome. Standing 187.5cm tall, and weighing 110kg, he’s the sort of man who turns heads everywhere he goes.
SX caught up with Baresi for a quick chat shortly before he was due to fly out to Melbourne, and quizzed him about his life in porn.
How did a University of Genova economics graduate like yourself get started in the porn industry?
I’ve always been very attracted by the porn industry; I have at home more than 200 porn movies. But the idea of trying to be in front of a camera came into my mind when a guy that I know asked me if I wanted to be his partner in a porn movie.
At that time I said no, because he was working for a bareback studio in Europe, but at the same time I was curious to try; so I started to send a couple of emails and after two weeks I got my airplane ticket for San Francisco.
You’re signed exclusively to Titan Men. What is about the company that made you choose them as the label you wanted to work with: their aesthetic, their philosophy?
There are many reasons that made me choose Titan. The first was the quality of their movies, but after my first film with them I started to appreciate the philosophy of the company [which ‘takes sex out of the dark’] and the professionalism of the crew I work with.
Some gay men imagine that having sex all day would be a dream – but does it sometimes feel like a job, just like any other?
Yes, it’s true; some people think that having sex all day long with beautiful men is a dream. Sometimes it can be, but I can say that it’s a real job, and it’s also exhausting.
Usually after a working day I’m so tired that I go home and I go straight to sleep. I receive many emails from guys asking me for information on how to get in contact with a studio to try to become a porn star, but what I can say? The job is sometimes very hard.
What did it mean to you personally to be voted International Gay Porn Star of the Year 2007 – were you surprised, flattered, shocked, pleased?
I was pleased to see that people like my work with Titan, so it is a big honour to receive this award.
As a porn idol to thousands of men worldwide, what is your message when it comes to safe sex?
Safe sex is something very important to me; I always try to promote safe sex, because sex is extremely fun and should be enjoyable when using condoms and gloves. This is what we try to show off in our movies. So my motto is play safe and have fun (a lot)!
