As with all fashion that hits the mark the first time around, if you wait around long enough, the cycle will complete the full circle and you’ll be hip and funky again. Such is the sound saga of infamous super bitch Grace Jones. At the ripe age of sexy 60, this is her 10th studio album and contains as much sensual energy, ballsy terror and dynamic oomph as any track she has previously released. This may have something to do with the magic magnitude of the mixmasters pushing her buttons. Excuse me, but with Ivor Guest, Sly and Robbie, Wally Badarou, Tricky and Brian Eno (to name but a few) on your side, Hurricane was always going to be impressive. Not that anyone would dare say anything different. Her old school Jamaican electronica remains entrenched and true to form, largely untampered with. Will you be a slave to her rhythm? - John Donnon |
