SAM SPARRO (ISL/UMA)music2-250.jpg

I have a new object of affection: ex-Aussie pop kid Sam Sparro.

He not only has a cool name, but is totally out-there too, despite his vaguely Narre Warren party-kid look.

But that’s under-rating his awesome coolness, fabulous style, cheeky demeanour and of course, brilliant taste in music.

Sam sparkles like the cheapest cubic zirconium!

Plus, Sam is an openly gay artist, and he’s so down with it there’s no reason not to fall in love with his colourful funk antics.

Although ‘Black & Gold’ is a commentary on the point of our existence on this weary planet, its true joy is Sam’s whiteboy-soul, electro-funk attitude.

The remixes give it a lush house workout by Kings of the Universe, an old school technotronic sound on the Phones’ Hard as Diamond remix, and a stuttering pop mix from Al Usher.

There’s nothing homebrand in quality about ‘Black & Gold’. It’s the shizzle. No, it is.
