MADONNA (WMA)music1-250.jpg

With a diabetic’s desire for sugar, I’ve rummaged through M’s candy store in search of a handmade designer lolly.

Rather despondently, all I found was your corner milk bar variety of sweets, mass-produced by some outsourced company with a star’s branding stuck on it.

Hard Candy is more about Timbaland, Danja and The Neptunes, the sound of their pet favourites Britney, Gwen and Nelly, and of course JT, who appears on not one, not two, or even three, but four of these tracks.

With the first half of the album all sticky and sweet, the hardness soon goes soft - like anything that’s been sucked on for too long.

If too many cooks spoil the broth, M needs to take back creative control from these rascals and get nasty in her much loved (and missed) way. But I am loving the teenspeak disco bubbles of ‘Give It 2 Me’.

This will be record of the year in America at the Grammy's, but Madonna's candystore is more licorice allsorts than turkish delight. There's only really 'Miles Away' as the only song that wasn't spoiled or hijacked with rap. Kanye West, the swine, adds a dash of Fishermans Friend to the store. He made a train wreck of the alluring 'The Beat Goes on'. Not only did they want money, but they wanted license to overun her music with dumbass rap. But after several listens I do love the JT duet 'Dance 2nite', which is a bit 'We Go Deep' by Janet Jackson. Once again, she has disgraceful hair on the cover of her album. And splaying her crotch at her age, what is Madonna thinking? I thought the inner pics were trying to relive the glory days of the classic Girlie Show poster as navy girl. On a plus side, I feel Madonna channels out more emotion and sentiment in an R'nB filter, as on Bedtime Stories. This is the Black 'Ray of Light' album.
