KATE CEBERANO (UMA)
Although not actually a compilation of original versions (in keeping with this week’s theme), this album of covers goes nearly as far but without the initial intention.
Mizz Kate, she of the reality television show career reinvention, has put her own stamp on these classics with all the edge of a doctor’s waiting room soundtrack.
Why she’s neutered these great songs with her elevator muzak style is beyond me. I know Channel 7 now pays her bills and Ugly Betty is their song, but does she really need to cover ‘Suddenly I See’? The same goes for Grey’s ‘Chasing Cars’. It’s overt product placement that she should be ashamed of.
And I won’t even start on her version of Madge’s ‘Live to Tell’! I can’t wait for front row tickets at Kate’s Shady Pines retirement village season of concerts.
