CARL RISELY (UMA)
As if one Mother’s Day album from an ex-Idol wasn’t enough, then wait, cos here’s another!
Carl was the thin, blonde sailor-boy who was earning his crust as a trumpeter in the navy. But since his final streak in the singing competition (he was placed number three in 2007), young Carl has decided to make his living as a convincing crooner of the jazz pop world.
Carl was nurtured though the series by Aunty Marcia, who saw potential in his transition from instrumentalist to vocalist. And her foresight (or was it insight?) was spot on, as Carl delivers this succulent selection of classics in spectacular fashion.
From the golden oldies (‘Let’s Fall in Love’, ‘We’ve Only Just Begun’, ‘This Guy’s in Love With You’ and ‘Girl from Ipanema’) to later hits like ‘Reminiscing’ and ‘Smooth Operator’, this big-band extravaganza is rip-roaring old-school fun.
