Allies camp it up on campus

newsclover-250.jpgOver 100 people attended the launch of the University of Technology Sydney’s (UTS) Ally Program on Tuesday, August 5 at the UTS Tower Building Foyer.

Speakers included the UTS Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Teaching, Learning & Equity), Professor Shirley Alexander, the Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, and UTS Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Ross Milbourne (pictured, left to right).

“There is clear evidence that…there is homophobic behaviour taking place on campus, and I have a zero tolerance towards that,” Alexander told SX.

UTS flew a rainbow flag from its flag post to mark the new program, which trains staff members to help foster a safe environment for GLBT students and staff. With 35 staff already ‘allies’, new ally training sessions have been confirmed for the future.
