The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation (BGF) will have their own official team running to raise funds at this year’s Sun Herald City2Surf marathon, to be held on Sunday, August 10. Team BGF will run as part of the City2Surf Charity Challenge, in which participants in the 14km race can choose to be sponsored by friends, family and members of the general public to raise funds for a chosen charity.
Bev Lange, CEO of BGF, told SX that Team BGF’s involvement marks a great opportunity to raise money to help men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS.
“It’s another aspect of raising the profile of our work, but it also allows people to get involved in really different things. Baking a cake for Bake-off is one thing, but running or walking in the City2Surf might appeal to a very different group of people,” Lange said.
“We’re thrilled that City2Surf organisers are giving charities this opportunity.”
At the time of print, the City2Surf’s website listed nearly $400,000 in donations to different charities in total. Last year’s event raised $1.2 million for charities. But Lange insisted that BGF don’t have a specific target. “We’re just thrilled that people are signing up,” she said.
BGF will hold a pre-race reception at the BGF offices on Level 2, 9 Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills. Team BGF members will receive a BGF-branded singlet, a water bottle and refreshments before the race starts at 9am.
