The Aurora Group charity announced last week that it had raised and dispersed almost $45,000 to GLBT community groups and projects in the past fundraising year, including Twenty10 and the Gay and Lesbian Counselling Service of NSW, which received donations of $15,000 and $10,000 respectively.
Twenty10 Executive Officer Meredith Turnbull welcomed the grant. “The generosity of Aurora donations continue to support our Groups Program, which runs in Hornsby, Neutral Bay and Newtown,” she said in a statement.
The Groups Program provides GLBT youth social interaction in safe spaces.
The remaining $20,000 has been divided between eight community projects, including six groups for young people living in outer Sydney, rural and regional areas, and the ACT, including Gosford’s Regional Youth Support Services (RYSS).
“We received a record number of applications for our last round of small grants, which highlighted great work and dedication in our community, but also highlighted the desperate need…for more funds,” said Aurora Chairperson Alex Sosnov.
Other recipients include the Gender Centre and Queerscreen.
Aurora’s annual gala dinner will be held on July 26.
