Corporate grab for Mitcham's bum?

aussieBum swimwear: 'big fans' of Matthew Mitcham.
Reports that Olympic gold medallist Matthew Mitcham is set to sign a sponsorship deal with aussieBum Swimwear are premature.

“We’re big fans and there’s a big place for Matthew in the company, but we haven’t had that conversation with Matthew,” aussieBum spokesperson John Scott told Evolution Online.

“We can confirm we provided Matthew with aussieBum clothing when he went to Beijing, but we just haven’t had that conversation with Matt or his management.”

Mitcham’s new management, Grand Slam International, which also represents Ian Thorpe and Leisl Jones, told Evolution Online a deal had not been signed.

“Nothing has been confirmed, nothing has been signed and I’m not sure where negotiations are,” Grand Slam spokesperson Jason Allan said.

A spokesperson for aussieBum founder Sean Ashby said stories circulating about a deal were “just rumours”.

“It looks like someone is guessing or second-guessing,” she said.

“We have not spoken to Matthew since he went to Beijing. He came to us as a supporter of the brand.”

Mitcham has been on an extended holiday in Europe with partner Lachlan Fletcher since he won gold at the Games last month.
