Make your mark at 2009 Mardi Gras

GLBT community groups and organisations are being urged to contribute to the 2009 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Launch.

As part of the new streamlined Mardi Gras season, the launch will take place during Fair Day – and community groups are being asked to participate in both.

“In 2009, the launch of Mardi Gras will be a unique event as part of Fair Day, so we’re asking community groups to come together in a unique way,” said New Mardi Gras (NMG) Chair David Imrie this week.

Imrie said that the combined launch/Fair Day, to be held on Sunday, February 15 in Victoria Park, Camperdown, would feature a new awards ceremony.

“The centrepiece of the new launch will be an awards ceremony where the heroes of the community will be honoured,” he said.

Organisations from all sections of the community, from sports groups to campaigning bodies, are encouraged to nominate one person to be honoured live on the main stage.

The launch will include a spectacular opening performance led by the members of the community, said Imrie, who added: “The event will be colourful and high profile ... a spectacle not to be missed.”

Groups that would like to be involved in the launch/Fair Day 2009 should contact Mardi Gras’ Gary Wright on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by Friday, January 9.
