| Memorial service to be held for Abo Winfrey |

Gibbs, also known as Abo Winfrey, died on Saturday morning as a result of an accident. Originally from Wee Waa in north western New South Wales, Gibbs moved to Sydney in the early 2000s. He first began performing in drag as Brandy Alexander in shows at The Flinders Hotel, later developing another drag identity – Abo Winfrey. Gibbs was also a valued member of the team at Palms on Oxford. Palms on Oxford manager Rodd Innes remembered Gibbs as a jovial person whose larrikin and honest streak touched everybody he met. “Those who knew Phill will remember one sound and that’s him belching at the end of the bar, followed by ‘Yes, that was with me’, with a big cheesy grin,” Innes told SX. Ben Tart, a campaign coordinator at ACON and friend of Gibbs, remembered Gibbs's warm personality and friendly demeanour. "I have known Phill for a number of years," he told SX. "I always found him with open arms, a big hug and a fat kiss." "A wonderful character and beautiful soul gone too soon." Innes said that tonight’s service will be a celebration of Gibb’s life. “We want people to come down and remember Phill.” Attendees are encouraged to bring pictures of Gibbs to share with their memories. A memorial page in honour of Gibbs has been set up on social networking site, Facebook. A memorial service will also be held in Redfern next week and the funeral will be held in Wee Waa. I have known Phil for only a few years as his teacher at the Eora College of Aboriginal Studies, Centre for Visual and Performing Arts where Phil was a student. I always found Phil to be a respectful person, and made people smile with his special brand of humor. He was a talented individual and gave of his time for others.
