Oscar-winning designer to judge Project Sleazeway

oscar-250.jpgFamed for his lavish costumes in the 1993 film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Oscar-winning designer Tim Chappel will be applying his design expertise when he joins the judging panel at this year’s Project Sleazeway.

“I think Australia is such an amazing hotbed of artistic talent and every time I come back here I’m always blown away by how creative and unique people’s approach to costume and design in general are,” he told SX.

Now in its second year, Project Sleazeway is a costume walk-off competition for partygoers who like to strut their stuff.

Since winning the film industry's highest honour with co-designer Lizzie Gardiner, Chappel has been working steadily in Hollywood in film such as Mojave Moon (1996), The Velocity of Gary (1998) and Boat Trip (2003). In 2006, Chappel returned to Australia to designed the costumes for the stage adaption of Priscilla, winning the Helpmann Award for Best Costume Design one year later.

Chappel said he is excited about the costume possibilities presented in this year’s theme. The Villain’s Lair.

“It’ll be fantastic to see what they come up with.”

Sleaze Ball will be held on Saturday, October 4, 9pm-10am at the Hordern  Pavilion, Moore Park. Tix $99 NMG member/$119 non-members.
