Local residents turned up on the weekend to talk with officers from Surry Hills police station at the first outing of the mobile command centre at Taylor Square.
The initiative is part of a three-month trial taking place once a month on a Sunday morning whereby members of the GLBT community can meet with local police to discuss issues.
Superintendent Donna Adney, the Surry Hills Local Area Commander, said she hoped more people would turn up for the next event.
“We’ll do it for the three-month trial and hope that in time the community will realise we’re there and come and talk to us and meet us,” she said.
The major things discussed were licensing and road rules, Adney added. “Some people had concerns about traffic congestion.”
