A Sydney gay male escort has urged other sex workers to be vigilant about their privacy and safety after becoming the subject of an alleged murder plot exposed and aired by the Nine Network’s A Current Affair program.
Aalex (his business name) told SX that escorts should take extra cautionary measures when dealing with clients, such as screening customers over the phone, utilising premises that have video intercom or camera surveillance, and having a trusted person to call before and after sessions.
He also added never to take a booking without a telephone number, to only accept outcalls to reputable hotels, and if any problems arise, to contact the police.
“My concerns are for my escort brothers and sisters who may be at risk,” Aalex said.
Aalex’s comments follow an exposé aired in A Current Affair late last month in which it was claimed by the program that Aalex was a target of an alleged murder plot involving a former public figure. The case is now the subject of a major police investigation.
Elena Jeffreys, President of Scarlett Alliance, an industry body that serves the interests of sex workers, told SX that all sex workers should maintain privacy to best safeguard themselves from harm.
“Everybody makes their own decision about how they interact with clients,” Jeffreys said. “The important thing is what’s right for you at the time.”
Sex workers in need of support should always contact sex workers’ organisations in their local area, Jeffreys added.
