Out Sydney DJ Jimmy Dee (pictured) and popular presenter Andrew Mercado, are among 551 people lending their faces to a campaign to raise awareness on the plight of whales.
Project 551, an initiative of The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), have collected 551 portraits, ranging from celebrities to ‘everyday’ people, to illustrate the breadth of support for whales. The figure also signifies the number of whales harpooned by Japanese whalers earlier this year.
“Hopefully this campaign will make our government notice and take real action to protect whales, including stopping Japan’s unlawful, inhumane and unnecessary whaling program once and for all,” Dee told SX.
“It is very important to me, because I strongly believe something should be done. I hope that the support of everyone will make a difference.”
