greymatter250.jpgGAY GREY MATTER

As Joe. My. God. reported, scientists have recently found that the brains of homosexuals have structural and functional differences from those of their straight counterparts.

The Wollcome Trust Centre for neuro-imaging at University College London used magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, to look into the brains of 80 men and women, including 16 gays and 15 lesbians.

They found that lesbians have a “male-like” proportion and distribution of grey matter in their brain when compared with heterosexual women.

“In homosexual women, the perirhinal cortex grey matter displayed a male-like structural pattern,” the researchers said. Apparently, the perirhinal area is associated with social and sexual behaviour.

Another study completed in Sweden claims that chemical pheromones, which affect our sense of smell, are different for gay men and straight men.

Writing in the Proceedings of the National Academy for Science, Ivanka Savic of the Karolinska Institutet presented 12 gay men, 12 heterosexual women and 12 heterosexual men with male sweat.

She found that both heterosexual women and gay men responded strongly when smelling male sweat that contained a chemical found in the male hormone testosterone, while heterosexual men have little response.

Interesting – but these conclusions are difficult to support because of the small samples used. Food for thought, though.

God, they’re really pulling out all the stops…

Three islanders from Lesbos have told a court that gay women insult their home’s identity by calling themselves lesbians.

The plaintiffs – two women and a man – are seeking to ban a Greek gay rights group from using the word ‘lesbian’ in its name.

Also known as Mytilini, Lesbos was home to the ancient poet Sappho, who praised love among women. Interestingly, it’s a major travel destination for gay women!

Apparently the Homosexual and Lesbian Community of Greece “causes confusion by using a geographic term in connection with [the group’s] special character and social action,” said Dimitris Papadelis, a lawyer representing the plaintiffs.

Oh, get a life! As the wonderful Joe from Joe. My. God. quipped, what’s next? The case of the outraged Transylvanians?

South Carolina will become the first state in America to issue Christianist licence plates. God help us all…

Apparently, South Carolina’s lieutenant governor announced Thursday that he is willing to put up $4,000 of his own money so his state can be the first in the nation to issue ‘I Believe’ licence plates with the image of a cross and a stained glass window. Classy…

The legislation allowing the plates was one of several religious-themed Bills to become law in the closing days of the state’s legislative session.

As Joe from Joe. My. God. mused (he’s been a goldmine this week), the Bills mean South Carolinians attending local government meetings could soon see the Ten Commandments and the Lord’s Prayer posted on walls, pray without fear of being sued, and drive home in cars with the ‘I Believe’ plates.

Civil rights groups are rightly considering lawsuits. Mark Stern, an attorney for the New York-based American Jewish Congress, said the Bills are an obvious endorsement of religion by legislators in an election year.

Um, yeah!

And I second Joe in his hope that the atheists in South Carolina band together and demand Flying Spaghetti Monster plates!

katy.jpg250.jpgYOU’RE SO GAY?

I heard Katy Perry’s song ‘UR So Gay’ for the first time on the weekend… “UR so gay and you don’t even like boys…”

Aside from the downright annoying text speak (and it’s a crap song), her perhaps inappropriate, some might say offensive, use of the word ‘gay’ as a negative adjective has apparently ruffled quite a few feathers.

What do you think, dear readers?
