DO THE DRAG SHUFFLE

So everybody seems to be excited about drag, drag and more drag. Perhaps it’s the warmer weather (although drag is much easier in cooler weather) or maybe it’s the strengthening of the economy. There’s so much shuffling going on it’s like a game of musical chairs. Last Friday we finished our season at Stonewall. Even though the dressing room is the kitchen, Candy and the staff treat you like princesses. This Friday the regular cast is back in a fab new show, Pass the Tina, so pop along and support Minnie, Tora and Antony. A new girl bursting onto the scene is Dacoda Secret. After persevering, she now has her own show on Saturdays at Stonewall and is joining Vanity and Courtney in a new extravaganza about to burst out on Fridays at The Shift. The girls have come up with a great concept that incorporates live and pre-recorded performance, designer costumes and energetic choreography on a new stage. I’ll be front and centre for that one.

Next week, Minnie is opening another new show at Arq. If you have a school drag fantasy then Arq-ademic is the show for you but it’s the cast changes everybody’s talking about. Who’s in and who’s out? Miss Tiffany has gone home to be with her family and Kitty is too cool for school so she’ll be spinning the discs as a Thursday night DJ. Joining Minnie and Charisma will be the toast of the DIVA awards, Tora Hyman and me. I’ve never worked with Tora and it was back in the dim, dark, distant days of Rocky Horror that Charisma and I trod the boards so I’m very excited to be going back to school as a mature age student.

Some of the funniest stories that came out of ‘Drags on tour’ have been Penny Clifford and Minnie performing at The Beat in Brisbane and from all accounts it’s been memorable and hilarious (except for the week when Minnie got food poisoning, couldn’t go onstage and spent a week curled up in an exploding ball).

A group of Sydney girls went to Cube in Canberra last week and besmirched our reputation. What happens on the road should stay on the road (but what happens in dark corners of a club…..) I couldn’t go past a quick mention of the tag team blow job that Cleo and Candy gave to a rather drunk, relatively straight patron.

I’ve been getting out of town as well. Performing at Castro’s was a lot of fun but the pre-fab dressing room out the back would be more at home in a caravan park at Moe. The official after-after party for Priscilla: The Musical is coming up on October 11th and I’m finally getting a gig at the Opera house when Camp as a row of Spiegletents showcases our best drag on November 13 (and I’ve been told to start preparing for the grand opening of The Imperial Hotel).

There’s so much going on, my wig is spinning. Get out and get down at a venue near you.
